Like Jesus, he fed (or tried to feed) thousands, but unlike Jesus, he wore a crown of buns, and those he offered nourishment to were not people, but seagulls.

A mystery man became a social media star this week after video appeared online showing him — in dark clothes, sunglasses, and a surgical mask — feeding seagulls in Green Lake Park in the city of Kunming, Yunnan province by sewing a number of buns into a fishing net to form a cape, and a crown.

Video of the walking bird feeder — who has since been nicknamed “Brother Bread” — was first posted on Chinese microblogging site Weibo on Saturday, November 17.

According to the website Yunnan Fazhi, Brother Bread was spotted feeding the birds at the park at about 7am that morning for a short while before leaving a few hours later.

It’s not clear if any gulls actually ate any of the offerings from Brother Bread’s cape and crown, but Apple Daily reports that he was seen offering some of his bread to other park visitors, and cleaning the floor with a broom he happened to have with him.

Brother Bread was one of a number of tourists who descended on Green Lake to feed the black-headed gulls of Siberia who migrate to the southwestern Chinese city for the winter.

And, in our opinion, he was the best of the flock.
