A Marvel superfan is really earning his “World’s Best Dad” coffee mug after he turned up to his daughter’s school dressed in a reproduction-quality Iron Man suit that he made himself.

What’s more, he did it to defend the 7-year-old’s honor after she was teased for telling classmates her dad was indeed the acerbic Avenger.

Speaking to Qianjiang Evening News, a newspaper based in Zhejiang province, Bao Guojian said he decided to make his own version of Tony Stark’s armor after watching Iron Man when it was released in 2008.

He told the newspaper that it took him more than two years to make the costume, and the project cost more than RMB30,000 (US$4,430).

In addition to the Iron Man costume, Bao also has between 20 and 30 replicas of props and models of characters from the Marvel franchise, including The Vulture, Spiderman, Captain America, and his shield.

The newspaper reports that Bao’s office also contains three 3D printers which he uses to make parts for the costumes.

Bao, now 34-years-old, said the idea to wear the costume to his daughter’s school came about when she returned home one day visibly upset.

When Bao asked his daughter, Lele, what happened, she told him that she told her classmates “my dad is Iron Man,” and they called her a liar.

Bao said: “I wanted to prove to them that my daughter wasn’t a liar so I went to her classroom wearing the Mark 17.”

So Bao squeezed himself into the suit — he admitted he had gained a bit of weight since he made it — and went to Lele’s school in Hangzhou, and was immediately the center of attention.

The newspaper reported that the principal even cancelled classes for the day so that everyone could get a chance to take photos with Iron Man.

Bao says he’s quite a hands-on parent and lets his kids help him make some of his Marvel models.

“I want to be their superhero, and be right by their side as they grow up.”

Awwwwwwwwww.
