Made-Up Makeup: Two arrested in counterfeit cosmetics seizure in Mong Kok

Two saleswomen, aged 17 and 23, were arrested yesterday after customs raided two Mong Kok stores that were allegedly part of a counterfeit cosmetics syndicate.

Customs’ Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau seized about 100 suspected counterfeit products, including lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, and make-up remover pens (Tipp-ex?).

All of the goods were being peddled under a Korean brand, which didn’t even sell some of the counterfeit products.

They made up non-existent “limited edition” lines and even invented new cosmetics that had similar packaging to the Korean brand’s other stuff.

Before you put anything on your face, make sure you buy it from a reputable store!

Anyone who sells or possesses for sale any forged trademarked goods can be punished by a fine of up to HKD500,000 and five years’ imprisonment.
