According to employers at the Tai Po Mega Mall, who organised a poll of 500 people aged from late teens to mid-30s last month, 74 percent of people said that they are planning to skip work on Valentine’s day. One-third of the workers said that they will even feign illness to avoid going into work. Most of them plan to skip work to wine and dine with their true love on Valentine’s. Looks like there might possibly be a large-scale absenteeism on Feb. 14!
Other interesting titbits from the survey: on who pays, 68 percent believe that males should foot the bill, while one-third favour going AA and splitting it. On Valentine’s gifts, Hongkongers remain quite unoriginal with more than one-quarter planning to give their beloved chocolates and flowers.
