Lonely mainland men scammed out of HK$10 million

A large number of lonely, gullible mainland men looking for love were falsely led to believe that rich and beautiful Hong Kong women were seeking marriage and were consequently scammed out of a total of HK$10 million.

The men were duped by scammers who published false personal ads in mainland newspapers like: “35-year-old Hong Kong widow, young and beautiful, with rich inheritance, seeking honest man to spend the rest of her life with.”

A number of female scammers pretending to be “rich women” chatted to the men on the phone and convinced them to make a deposit into their bank accounts. Nearly a hundred people were scammed out of money totalling HK$10 million, and 12 men and women were arrested for the scam, reported Sing Tao Daily.
