Li Ka Shing invests millions in synthetic egg startup

Although Li Ka Shing has been looking to sell his ventures in Hong Kong, he has been investing his money elsewhere, specifically Silicon Valley – a startup called Hampton Creek, which manufactures synthetic eggs.

Sounds kind of weird, well seeing that the two-year-old startup already has deals with six Fortune 500 retail and food manufacturers under their belt, it’s definitely not weird for Li Ka Shing to be interested in them. The man after all owns Park’n’Shop and knows better than anyone the demands of egg in the market.

Hampton Creek sees potential in expanding in China where many potentially harmful to health fake eggs are produced, as well as the risks of avian flu eggs. Additionally, Hampton Creek’s eggs will be 48% cheaper than real eggs.
