Hong Kong’s adventure junkies are in for a serious treat.
The Royal Geographical Society will be hosting British mountaineer extraordinaire Sir Chris Bonington for a lecture on Monday, June 22, in which he’ll share stories about the (literal) high points in his 65 years as an adventurer.
At 80 years of age, Sir Bonington has made countless ascents to some of the highest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest. He’s also made history by being the first mountaineer to ascend the Central Pillar of Freney in the Alps, and Annapurna II and Nuptse in the Himalayas.
While descending from the fearsome Baintha Brakk (otherwise known as the Ogre), he and his partner suffered broken bones amidst a savage storm and went without food for five days. It became one of the most famous escapes in mountaineering history.
Suffice it to say, he could probably hike the Dragon’s Back with his feet tied together.
Hear more about Sir Bonington’s adventures in this sure-to-be-fascinating lecture on Monday.
