At least five people have been injured after a New World First ferry crashed into a yacht near Sai Wan.
Oriental Daily reports that the 8:40am ferry from Cheung Chau to Central collided with a yacht near Green Island at around 9:15am, rupturing the hull of the yacht.
None of the 391 passengers and eight crew members on the ferry were said to be injured, but at least five out of the six people on board the yacht reportedly sustained minor injuries. Firefighters and marine police rushed to the scene and took the injured parties ashore to receive medical care.
Commercial Radio reports that the ferry was carrying at least 90 kindergarten students, parents and teachers from Cheung Chau who were travelling to Chai Wan for a day trip.
According to Oriental Daily, the ferry captain has years of sailing experience. The yacht is reported to be owned by Sinopec, and had one captain, two crew members, and three labourers on board at the time of the crash.
