Anyone who’s had to change MTR lines at Admiralty during rush hour knows the pain of being jostled by rude commuters, but one man took his irritation way too far after he allegedly knifed a fellow MTR rider for bumping into him.
At around 8:30am today, a 22-year-old man surnamed Ng was getting off a Tsuen Wan Line train at Admiralty Station when he bumped into another commuter, a 35-year-old man surnamed So.
“The guy then started losing his temper and chased me as I walked across the platform,” Ng told Apple Daily. “He was very agitated and kept saying I bumped into him, and repeatedly asking me to say sorry.”
“I didn’t feel the need to apologize. He started hitting me but I didn’t fight back, and then he pulled out a Swiss army knife from his bag.” (Ed: Initial reports from eyewitnesses and local media outlets named the weapon as a “sword”.)
Ng received injuries to his face, neck, and left hand, but said they “didn’t hurt much”. The 22-year-old said a bystander jumped in to help break up the fight, but got his clothes sliced in the fracas.
After MTR staff arrived at the platform to defuse the situation, So reportedly jumped on an Island Line train bound for Kennedy Town, where he was arrested by the police.
Ng was sent to the hospital for treatment but has since been released. A spokesperson for MTR Corp. said the incident had been handed over to the police and its service was not affected.
