Kit-napped: Photos of woman stealing cat from seafood shop in Tai Po shared widely

Netizens have been sharing photos of a woman apparently stealing a three-month-old cat from its home in an attempt to identify the dastardly kit-napper.

A Facebook user surnamed Ng uploaded the pictures to a Tai Po community group yesterday evening. Ng, who is familiar with the kitten’s owners, who run a seafood store, said they were “very worried” about the safety of their pet.

The pictures, which were reportedly taken at around 5:15pm on Monday, show a woman approaching the cat, Lucky, on the street. She was seen playing with the kitten for a while before bending down and putting him inside a red tote bag.

Witnesses told Ng they saw the woman head into Po Wah Building at 1 Tai Ming Lane immediately afterwards, then coming back out and walking in the direction of 12 Tai Ming Lane.

“By the looks of it, she came prepared,” Ng wrote in her caption. “I hope someone in the community can help. If you know who she is, please tell her to return Lucky. To this lady: Lucky might be very cute, but he’s somebody else’s cat. Please return him to his family.”

Since it was posted at around 7:40pm yesterday, Ng’s post has received over a thousand engagements on Facebook. Many commenters, expressed their shock and disapproval at the thief’s actions.

“If you want a cat so badly, why not adopt one instead of stealing someone else’s pet?” one person said. Some people shared links to a previous cat-stealing case in Tai Po, and mused whether the same culprit was to blame.

What ever the case, we hope Lucky is back with his family safe and sound as soon as possible. If you have any information to offer, please message Jossie Ng on Facebook.
