A Hong Kong man, 26, has been sentenced to 15 months of prison after entering a bogus marriage with a pregnant mainlander.
The woman gave birth in Hong Kong last year before returning to the mainland. When she later tried to re-enter Hong Kong with her baby and her faux hubby, however, the Immigration Department refused to let her into the city as they doubted the authenticity of their relationship. Not enough PDA?
The man later admitted under investigation that he had been promised HKD30,000 by a middleman to enter a fake marriage with a pregnant mainland woman.
He also admitted that he lied about being the baby daddy when he applied for the child’s re-entry permit. We really hope he just broke into Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” for his confession.
He was charged with one count of aiding another for making false representation and one count of making a false statement.
A spokesman for the Immigration Department said that they’ve been taking “vigorous” actions to fight immigration crime committed “by non-local pregnant women and their abettors”, which make for the least scary-sounding organised criminals we’ve ever heard of.
