Police have arrested a jealous husband after several people were injured when he doused his wife with corrosive drain cleaner at a busy restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday.

According to reports, the man, named as Ho Chiu-tun, 40, entered the Ho Choi seafood restaurant at the Empire Centre on Mody Road about 11:40am carrying a bottle containing of drain cleaner.

He then proceeded to pour the corrosive liquid on his wife, 40-year-old Ho Hoi-ling, a receptionist at the eatery, to the horror of onlookers who had been enjoying yum cha.

Ho, the wife, was severely injured, suffering burns to her face, arms and legs. She was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin and is listed in a “serious condition.”

A total of seven people — including the couple — were injured in the fracas. Five bystanders were also splashed with acid, including three staff members and two customers aged between 38 to 66-years-old, wrote Apple Daily.

Four of the five were discharged from hospital, while a 38-year-old restaurant employee is still in hospital in a stable condition.

The couple are originally from Fujian and had been married for 20 years and lived in Tsuen Wan with their two daughters aged 12 and 16.

The newspaper reported that their marriage broke down months ago, and that in January the husband suspected his wife was having an affair.

The wife reportedly moved out in March, transferred to the Hoi Choi seafood restaurant, and filed for divorce.

He was confronted by furious patrons. One witness, speaking to the SCMP, said he heard the suspect say of his wife: “Just let her die”.
