Jeweller leaves HKD6 mil. worth of goods in trolly outside Hong Kong cake shop. Guess what?

Bad things happen to dumb people, it seems.

Sing Tao Daily reports that a 43-year-old jeweller is beside himself with grief after leaving a shopping cart containing more than HKD6 million worth of valuables outside a Hong Kong cake shop… and finding it duly pinched.

The man, only referred to by the surname Chung – because this story is way too embarrassing to reveal someone’s full name – stacked his trolly with jewellery, gold bars and ornaments before popping into a Kee Wah Bakery store in Tsim Sha Tsui’s China Hong Kong City shopping centre at around 2pm yesterday.

CCTV footage shows a man in a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a medical mask (how convenient for criminals that we can all wear those without arresting suspicion) take off with the goods, estimated to be worth around HKD6.3 million.

Police suspect the thief may have been shadowing Chung for some time and knew the cart was loaded with loot.

They are said to be at a complete loss, however, as to why Chung would leave the trolly outside a shop in the first place.

This is probably one thing Hong Kong police and the whole of the city can agree on.

Yay. Common ground!
