Wads of cash were tossed out of a window at a Tuen Mun apartment Monday, startling onlookers as they watched the colorful notes float down before them.

According to Apple Daily, dozens of bills varying in denominations between HK$10 (US$1.25) and HK$500 (US$65) were found on a ledge by the side of the Shan King Estate block.

Passerbys picked up the notes that landed on the ground, most of whom handed the notes over to the estate’s security, the paper reported.

Police say the money is believed to have been thrown out the window by a playful child. His father, after realizing the incident, went downstairs to retrieve the money, which totaled around HK$5,000 (US$645).

One elderly woman who lives on the fourth floor of the housing block found a HK$100 (US$13) note at her window, which she returned to a security guard downstairs, according to HK01.

A similar incident occurred in 2018 when a man, reportedly a promoter for a cryptocurrency scheme, was arrested for disorderly conduct in a public place after flinging HK$100 bills from a Sham Shui Po rooftop.
