It’s Official: Hongkongers are miserable

Ever noticed how miserable everyone looks on the MTR? Well now it’s official! A survey of 10 Asian nations has found that more than half of Hong Kong adults under the age of 40 rate themselves as unhappy. On a sliding scale of one to 10, with 10 being the most happy, 52 percent of residents gave a score of six or below, considered by the Ocean Junior Chamber, which ran the study, to signify overall unhappiness.

The questionnaire, which was also issued to citizens in Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Zhongshan City, Ningxia, Japan, Malaysia, Australia and Thailand, found Hong Kong to be the third most unhappy territory in the region. Good relationships with family and friends and pay rises were cited as factors most likely to lead to happiness, while financial worries and job insecurity were two top sources of unhappiness.
