ISF Academy in Pok Fu Lam, a popular international school which charges up to HK$180,000 in annual school fees, apologised yesterday for hiring 16 unregistered teachers.
According to ISF Academy, following a warning letter from the Education Bureau demanding an investigation and a meeting with education officials last week, the school said that all of its teachers were qualified and it had just been late in submitting registration papers. In their statement, they said that “all [teachers] employed are qualified and professional educators who are eligible for registration to teach in Hong Kong” and “We sincerely apologise to all for any inconvenience.”
The school is now applying for registration and the Education Bureau usually takes six months to process and make a decision on an application. The school did not say whether the 16 teachers they have hired would have to take temporary leave while in the process of registration.
