Nine Indonesian domestic helpers had to be rushed on hospital on Sunday with heatstroke after attending an event in Victoria Park to mark their country’s 70th anniversary of independence.
The Indonesian Consulate General told Apple Daily that 20 women in total suffered heatstroke, despite the fact that tents, bottled water and misting fans were made available on the 34ºC day.
Of the nine women who were hospitalised, seven were discharged the same day.
Some 20,000 people attended the event, which featured performances from famous Indonesian singers and dancers to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day, which fell on the Monday before the gathering.
The Indonesian Consulate said additional measures will be taken to avoid heatstroke at similar events in the future.
