Indonesian helper falls to death first week of work

Wong Tai Sin Chuk Yuen Estate

An Indonesian helper who started work for only six days died yesterday after cleaning the windows at a Wong Tai Sin Chuk Yuen Estate. She fell 27floors and was killed instantly.

The 28-year-old helper just arrived from Indonesia and cares for a 72-year-old employer who lives alone. Her children, who are all married and has moved out, hired a helper to take care of their mother. This is her second helper.

According to the employer, the helper is very hard-working. On the day of the incident, after taking her employer out for a walk, she started cleaning the house and the windows without being asked. At around 9:30am, she was found dead on the first floor canopy.

According to the Indonesian helpers association, many helpers arrive in Hong Kong from primitive villages and have no concept of high buildings, and advised employers to make safety precautions such as installing safety belts for their windows to prevent such accidents from happening.
