Iced Buns: Will the Ice Cream Burger be the next Hong Kong food fad?

We’ve all heard of the ice cream sandwich. It works because the bread is either cookies or wafer, not actual bread.

However, the executive pastry chef, Cyril Dupuis, Hong Kong’s InterContinental hotel either doesn’t get this logic or doesn’t give a flying fig.

Introducing, the ICE CREAM BURGER. Bluuurgh!!???

Sandwiched between homemade brioche (a rich and buttery French bread), these insanely decadent offerings are even served with a side of churros masquerading as fries for an extra alarming appearance.

The five offerings include:

American Caramel/Chocolate Cookie Burger: brioche, custard vanilla cream, caramel salted ice cream, cookie and chocolate ice cream, whipped vanilla cream, crumble, caramelised watermelon seeds, caramel bonbons, crumbled cookies.

Chinese Sesame/Lemongrass Burger: brioche, custard vanilla cream, lemongrass ice cream, black sesame ice cream, whipped vanilla ice cream, crumble, white sesame sauce, crumbled coconut cookies.

French Chocolate Burger: chocolate brioche, chocolate custard, chocolate chips, cookie and chocolate ice cram, milk chocolate mousse, brownies, dark chocolate sauce.

Priced at a cool HKD210 each, the Ice Cream Burgers will be available until September 30 at the hotel’s Lobby Lounge.

And given Hong Kong’s love for blurring the boundaries between sweet and savoury, we predict this might just be crazy enough to work.

Lobby Lounge, InterContinental Hong Kong, 18 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, (+852) 2313-2323.
