ICAC arrests footballers for match-fixing

Uh-oh, looks like some footballers are in trouble! The ICAC has confirmed the arrest of nine individuals for being involved in match-fixing.

The executive officer of the club and sponsor bribed several players to fix several match results. The nine suspects arrested include six Happy Valley players and its technical director, as well as a representative of the club’s sponsor and another suspect.

The ICAC gave a statement saying investigations started when there were complaints about match fixing being involved in First Division games and in Canbo Senior Shield competitions organised by the Hong Kong Football Association.

Secretary for Home Affiars, Tsang Tak-sing, stresses the need to get to the bottom of the issue and for the government to continue to promote football and restore the confidence in the sport in Hong Kong.
