While a drunk person is no rarity in Lan Kwai Fong, one bladdered bloke got his hands on a meat cleaver yesterday before reportedly threatening to cut people in the nightlife district, resulting in at least two cops drawing their guns.
According to Apple Daily, the 37-year-old Hong Kong man stormed into Yung Kee restaurant on Wellington Street at around 10pm, nicked a meat cleaver, and reportedly threatened a staff member who tried to stop him.
Police found the man, who appeared to be drunk, waving the knife around on D’Aguilar Street. When an officer asked him what he was doing, the man allegedly shouted, “Sir, I want to chop somebody!”
Police tried to talk him down to no avail, and eventually at least two officers had to pull out their firearms as a precaution.
Another policeman managed to grab the cleaver from the suspect while he was distracted, before six officers then tackled him to the ground and arrested him on suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon and criminal intimidation.
Three police officers and a civilian who assisted the police sustained minor injuries and were taken to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment.
