A food and environmental hygiene officer succumbed to his injuries yesterday at 4:55pm, after getting pushed to the ground by a hawker on Sunday.

The officer, named Wu Kwong-sum and aged 58, had been in a coma since the incident.

The case, which had been classified as a wounding, is now considered manslaughter.

On Tuesday, the suspect, a 36-year-old South Asian man, turned himself in to the police, who arrested him. He will be appearing in court today.

“I express my deepest condolences to Mr Wu’s family. The relevant government departments will spare no effort in providing the necessary support and assistance to Mr Wu’s family,” Chief Executive CY Leung said.
