Retired Hong Kong judge John James Rhind, aged, 80, has reportedly disappeared from his home in Pui O, sparking a widespread search of Lantau Island’s topography and surrounding waters.
Rhind’s wife Nancy says she realised he had gone missing at around 8pm yesterday evening. She told the SCMP that Rhind was very familiar with the local area, from regular trail hiking and dog walks, but had never gone missing before.
Police have appealed for Lantau residents and hikers to keep an eye out for Rhind, who is 6’3″, slim, and has combed-back white hair. Although the former High Court judge has a mobile phone, he has reportedly left it at home, carrying only his HKID.
A police spokesperson said earlier today that a platoon of officers would be deployed to search the hillside and coastline more stringently.
Anyone who has seen a man matching Rhind’s description, or who has any other relevant information should call police on 3661 1696.
