A vendor at a Yuen Long new year fair is selling a live goldfish trapped inside a globe as a keychain adornment, which has led to complaints of animal cruelty.
According to the vendor, there is enough oxygen in the globe to keep the fish alive and that buyers can unscrew the top to allow oxygen in for the fish. However, experts say that the fish would need an infusion of oxygen every four to five hours, or it will expire within an hour. Keeping the fish in such a tiny confined space is also cruel, unless it’s a temporary vessel.
