Hot wheels: Porsche bursts into flames in Causeway Bay

A garage worker had a lucky escape today after a Porsche he was returning to its owner burst into flames in Causeway Bay.

The car, however, will definitely need to return to the shop, with videos and photos online showing the expensive German-made sports car engulfed in flames as it sits in the Central-bound lane of Gloucester Road.

According to Apple Daily, the driver, surnamed Ho who works at a garage in Tai Wai, was returning the car to its foreigner owner after it had been checked.

The newspaper reported that Ho was driving the car out of the Cross Harbour Tunnel from Hung Hom and noticed something was wrong with the car.

He did not want to enter the gas station so he pulled over at a lay-by area near The Excelsior Hotel. When he got out of the car, the vehicle caught fire.

According to the SCMP, police said firefighters extinguished the blaze by 12.30pm and the Central-bound lands reopened before 1pm.

Apple Daily reported the vehicle’s owner was a 27-year-old foreign man.
