Hongkongers warned off Smirnoff Ice after tiny glass particles found in alcopop

If you’re a Smirnoff Ice drinker, it’s time to kick that dirty habit. Not only because Smirnoff Ice is rank, but also because you might be consuming tiny glass particles, Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has warned.

After learning that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a warning and a voluntary recall of the alcoholic drink from various batches due to fears they may contain “small glass particles”, Hong Kong has followed suit.

Traders have been told to stop selling batches of the original Smirnoff Ice flavour, Smirnoff Ice Light, Watermelon Mimosa, Orange Screwdriver, Peach Bellini, Green Apple, Raspberry, Cranberry and Lime, and the Life of the Party Pack.

Who knew there was such variety of alcoholic beverages for children?

“After learning of the incident, the CFS immediately liaised with local major retailers and importers but no affected products under the recall have been found so far. The CFS will liaise with the Canadian authorities and will alert the trade to the incident. For the sake of prudence, members of the public are urged not to consume the affected products and the trade should also stop selling the affected products,” a spokesperson from the CFS said.

The centre has promised to monitor the situation and take follow up action if needed.

To be fair though, if your stomach starts bleeding after drinking that crap, it’s not necessarily to do with glass particles.
