Hongkongers still traveling to Thailand despite country declaring martial law

Hongkongers have stuck to their plans to board flights to the country who recently declared martial law.

The Standard spoke to travelers at the Hong Kong International Airport set for Thailand who expressed they were not worried about the situation, and if there was any danger, they would leave immediately.

Most Hong Kong vacationers said they would however, avoid areas of protest and hang around hotel and shopping areas only.

According to the Travel Industry Council there are currently about 800 Hongkongers, part of 40 tour groups, in Thailand, 600 of which are in Bangkok. More Hongkongers are headed to Thailand with approximately 1,800 people leaving for the country between today and May 28.
