Hongkongers joined others around the globe last night to call for a last-minute pardon to prevent a Filipino domestic workers being executed in Indonesia.
Mary Jane Veloso was given a 72-hour execution notice over the weekend along with the infamous ‘Bali Nine’ drug smuggling ring.
The mother of two was found with 2.6kg of heroin and sentenced to death in 2010, but has always maintained her innocence.
Wearing red headbands sporting the words “Save Mary Jane”, Hong Kong activists gathered outside the Indonesian Consulate in Causeway Bay last night, calling on Indonesian President Joko Widodo to grant Veloso clemency in the 11th hour.
Rallies have also been held in cities all across the world in recent days, with Amnesty International, human rights groups and even Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao calling for her release.
