Hong Kong woman kills two pet dogs in charcoal burn suicide attempt

A Hong Kong woman has been charged with animal abuse after two of her three pet dogs died when she burnt charcoal in her apartment in a suicide attempt.

The 37-year-old, who goes by the surname Chi according to Apple Daily, decided to end her life by the charcoal method because her 43-year-old boyfriend had broken up with her.

At around 5pm on Tuesday she reportedly texted her ex to tell him she had lit the fire and was choking on fumes in her Yuen Long home.

He apparently arrived on the scene a whole two hours later and, unsurprisingly, found Chi unconscious.

Although the woman recovered later in hospital, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said a white Pomeranian pooch was found dead at the scene, and that officers failed to revive another dog after several resuscitation attempts.

Thankfully, one remaining dog survived.

Chi has been charged with cruelty to animals and released on bail.
