Hong Kong has earned its spot on Monopoly’s 80th anniversary board, and guess what? It costs to land on us.
Our beloved Fragrant Harbour was the second most popular city to win a slot on the upcoming “Here and Now: World Edition” board after nearly four million of the game’s fans cast their votes.
In keeping with real life, Hong Kong will occupy one of the most expensive pieces of real estate on the board, the dark blue section traditionally held by Park Lane in the classic edition and Repulse Bay in the city edition.
Votes came in from across 182 countries and from nearly four million fans, who chose from a list of 80 locations to feature in the next release.
Weirdly, we were just beaten to the top spot by Lima, the capital of Peru.
What do they have that we don’t? Apart from more Monopoly fans, clearly.
Tokyo and Taipei were the only other Asian cities to make the cut. #SuckItSingapore!
The board will be released in September.
