In the aftermath of the Sabah earthquake that has claimed the lives of 16 people, Malaysian authorities have held the infamous naked tourists in police custody. As reported by Coconuts Kuala Lampur, the tourists face possible charges of violating native laws by posing nude at the sacred site of Mount Kinabalu and reportedly urinating in “improper places.” Tourism minister Masidi Manjun said angry spirits disturbed by the Western tourists caused the earthquake.
The accusations have drawn the ire of Emil Kaminski, a Hong Kong-based traveler who was part of the group responsible for the photo. He has responded to the accusations on Twitter, calling the Manjun an idiot and a dildo for suggesting that the hikers caused the earthquake. Emil has also posted a video on his YouTube account monkeetime, accusing the minister of “setting Malaysia back hundreds of years” by not knowing “anything about plate tectonics, about geology and seismology.”
