Hong Kong tourist arrested after flying drone over Cambodian palace

A man from Hong Kong was arrested at the weekend for flying a drone over the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Such actions are now illegal in Cambodia and a bit of a sore spot for the royal family after a German tourist flew a drone into the palace grounds in February while the Queen Mother, 79, was engaged in her daily exercise routine.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, the 40-year-old Hong Kong tourist, Tiga Wong, was arrested on Saturday and finally released when police were satisfied he had no bad intentions.

Drone flying enthusiasts were reminded to check the laws of the countries they’re visiting before letting their expensive toys take to the skies.

In Hong Kong, for example, it’s illegal to fly drones in country parks, along Victoria Harbour and within five kilometres of the airport. They must also stay below 91.4 metres.

So now you know exactly what rules you’re breaking absolutely all the time.
