All beaches in Hong Kong under the management of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will close from Thursday until further notice.

In a government press release, the department said the move is “to reduce crowd gatherings and the chances of virus transmission” in view of “the present severe situation of COVID-19”.

Since the onset of the fifth wave of the coronavirus, lifesaving services at all these beaches have been suspended.

The department said it will strengthen the cordoning off of beaches to prevent the public from entering.
