Hong Kong socialite jumps to death at Beverly Hills plastic surgery clinic

Hong Kong socialite and jewellery designer Sandra d’Auriol, listed as one of the top 500 people in the city by Asia Tatler, jumped to her death above a Beverly Hills clinic after a facelift procedure by A-list plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Novack. It was suspected that she had a bad reaction to anaesthesia, which can cause delirium and suicidal behaviour in a very small number of cases.

According to the Daily Mail, the patient woke the following morning “agitated and aggressive,” threw off her clothing, and dashed up to the roof of the 15-storey building at 7am. Police spent three hours trying to talk the mother-of-two down as she sat naked with her legs dangling over a ledge. Despite their attempts, she plunged to her death after walking around the edge of the building a few times.

Known for making one-of-a-kind jewellery and for philanthropy, Sandra d’Auriol has lived in Hong Kong for 30 years and her French husband Yan D’Auriol is a former L’Oreal executive and founding partner of Hong Kong private equity firm Leitmotiv. The couple is no stranger to tragedy, having lost their 12-year-old son who drowned in a Bali swimming pool in 2004. Tributes have flooded in for Sandra and she is sadly missed.
