Hong Kong seeks custody of deaf and dumb boy ‘abandoned’ in Singapore by father

A deaf and dumb 11-year-old boy, who was found wandering the streets of Singapore alone, has returned to Hong Kong. According to police sources who spoke to the SCMP, Hong Kong’s Social Welfare Department will now seek a court order a gain custody of the child, who is currently residing at an Aberdeen boarding school for children with learning difficulties.

The boy is thought to have been abandoned by his father, who is now divorced from the boy’s mother and married to the women he employed to care for his mentally disabled son.

On returning to Hong Kong two days after allegedly leaving his son in Singapore, the 45-year-old father was arrested at his home in the Wong Tai Sin district on July 25th. He has been released on bail, but police believe they have enough evidence to charge him with ill treatment and neglect of a child. If found guilty, the he could spend up to 10 years in jail.
