Mainland China is the least religious country in the world, followed by our very own heathen Hong Kong.
A poll by WIN/Gallup International found that mainland China has twice as many atheists as any other country, with 61 percent saying they are “convinced atheists”.
Hong Kong is the second least religious place, with 34 percent saying they don’t believe in a deity.
We seem to be a bit of an anomaly both worldwide and in Asia.
Six out of 10 people in the world consider themselves religious, while one in five say they are not.
Asia’s proportion of people who consider themselves religious is about the same as the worldwide average, at 62 percent.
The most religious country in the world is Thailand, with 94 percent responding they are religious, but we’d probably be more pious too if our sacred festivals involved massive water fights.
Africa and the Middle East are the most devout regions, where 8 out of 10 people say they consider themselves to be religious.
Guess the Fragrant Harbour is going to Hell then.
