Hong Kong says final goodbyes to co-founder of Shue Yan University

When news of Dr Chung Chi-yung, educator and co-founder of Hong Kong’s first and only private school, Shue Yan University, died at 93-years-old earlier this month, many prominent members of Hong Kong society offered their condolences – including the Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying.

Not surprisingly, Chung’s funeral yesterday at the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point were attended by many of Chung’s friends, family, teachers, students and alumni.

Hung Siu-ping delivered the eulogy honouring her 40 years of dedication and contribution to education. University of Hong Kong vice chancellor Tsui Lap-chee, Open University president John Leong Chi-yan, liaison office director Li Lu and a representative of the university’s Board of Governors, Kenneth Ting Woo-shou were pallbearers.

Chung’s remains were cremated at Cape Collinson Crematorium in Chai Wan. A memorial service will also be held at Shue Yan university on Saturday.
