Hong Kong has recorded only one new coronavirus infection today, making this the fifth day in a row that the city’s number of new COVID-19 cases has been in the single digits.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan of the Center for Health Protection’s communicable diseases branch said during a press conference that the latest case involved a 19-year-old female student who had recently returned from the UK.

The patient arrived in Hong Kong on April 1 and gave a deep throat saliva sample on April 2 which tested negative for the virus. On April 13, towards the end of her self-quarantine period, the patient reportedly felt “a little bit of discomfort” in her throat, but disregarded it.

She returned home after completing her quarantine, but a temperature check yesterday showed that she was running a fever. The patient then went to Caritas Medical Center, where she tested positive for coronavirus.
