Hong Kong parents ‘commit suicide’ by burning charcoal in bedroom

A Hong Kong couple have died at their home after apparently committing suicide by burning charcoal in their bedroom.

The Eastern District Crime Squad were called to an address in Hing Cho House, Hing Tung Estate, Chai Wan, yesterday morning by a 36-year-old woman who said her parents had committed suicide.

On entering the unit, they found the bodies of a 68-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman alongside remnants of burnt charcoal.

Post-mortem examinations will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death, but initial investigations suggest that the woman attempted to commit suicide with her husband in the room.

Police are so far describing the incident as a manslaughter and suicide case.
