Hong Kong Observatory to lower Typhoon Signal to No. 3 before 1pm

The Hong Kong Observatory has announced that it will issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 before 1pm today.

As of 11:20am, the Typhoon Signal No. 8 is in force and has been since 8:40pm last night.

At the time of writing, landslip and flooding warnings are also currently in force.

Typhoon Nida has been moving inland and away from the city, taking the rain along with it, according to the observatory. At 11am its centre was about 130 kilometres away.

Winds in Hong Kong have been settling, but they will still reach gale force in the territory’s western areas and high grounds.

The Airport Authority stated that about 325 flights in and out of Hong Kong were cancelled, while the government says it’s received 114 reports about fallen trees.

The Amber Rainstorm Warning was hoisted at 5:20am this morning and cancelled at 10:45am.
