A Hong Kong man who got his teenage daughter pregnant and tried to persuade her to go to the mainland for an abortion has been jailed for incest.
The 55-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to six years and eight months in jail on Friday, which High Court Judge Esther Toh Lye-ping said she reduced from 10 years because he pleaded guilty.
The court heard how the man had sex with his 17-year-old daughter on Oct. 21 2013.
The girl also recounted other occasions when she would wake up in the night to find her underwear removed and an unidentified secretion in her bed, reports the SCMP.
When she later gave birth, DNA tests proved the baby was her father’s.
Just to make this horrible story as absolutely awful as it could possibly be, the defendant’s mentally disabled sister committed suicide after the case first came to light.
On sentencing, Judge Toh said, “The defendant is a totally shameless coward to prey on his own daughter.”
“This is a case where instead of protecting his daughter, he violated her and breached the trust between father and daughter.”
She added, “The defendant will go to jail and regain freedom when he is released. But one would wonder when X [the victim] could be released from her prison of psychological distress the defendant so cowardly and single-handedly brought on her.”
