A Hong Kong man who allegedly attempted to smuggle 100 kilograms of methamphetamine from China to Australia in a shipping container full of children’s toys is due to appear in court today.
In a joint statement from the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and the Australian Federal Police, it was revealed that the 30-year-old was arrested earlier this month along with a 37-year-old Malaysian man in a suburb southwest of Sydney.
Neither of the men have been named.
The huge haul of drugs, said to be worth USD50 million (HKD388 million), were found under a false floor in a shipping container declared to hold “kids’ toys” after X-ray equipment was used to examine the contents.
The container was delivered to an address, with the two men arrested nearby.
They could face life imprisonment if found guilty.
