Hong Kong man arrested for having strangers pay off his parking tickets in elaborate scam

A man has been arrested for getting his parking tickets paid off by tricking other drivers into believing they had been hit with a fine.

A 37-year-old man, surnamed Chen, received several traffic tickets for repeatedly parking illegally near his workplace in Tai Po, reports Apple Daily.

The devious driver – who only got his license in the past year and still had his “P” probationary plate – reportedly decided to get other poor drivers to pay his measly HKD320 tickets.

It is alleged that he would scan his ticket and Photoshop out the police officer’s writing, including the license plate, car description, date, street name, and patrol officer’s name, thus making himself a blank ticket that still had its original serial number.

He worked for a printing company, so he had the skills and the resources.

Then, with the fraudulent paperwork ready, the man would apparently surreptitiously walk past a patrolling traffic officer in order to read his badge number.

He would reportedly then identify a car that was also parked illegally, fill in his fake ticket with the car’s details and the new patrolling officer’s info, and stick it under the car’s windshield wipers.

It is believed it did this at least five times.

Police only caught on to the scam when a savvy driver reported a suspicious-looking ticket (see below).

Chen was arrested along with his 35-year-old alleged accomplice, surnamed Yu, who is suspected of helping Chen to create the fraudulent tickets. A printer, along with other materials, was seized as evidence.

We have to admit Chen is one ballsy dude, but his brains and time could probably be put to better, law-abiding uses.
