A Hong Kong court heard today how a former construction worker had sex with a stray dog “in a moment of confusion”.

Chung Lin-fai, 58, pleaded guilty to one count of bestiality at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court today.

Chung was arrested and charged in February. A hiker, who saw the 58-year-old lure a two-year-old stray female dog to a stream in Tung Chung on Feb. 1, called the authorities when she found the dog in distress and bleeding from its lower body later that day.

A veterinary examination found that the dog had suffered trauma to its genital area, which also contained suspected human semen, HK01 reports.

In mitigation, Chung’s lawyer said the former construction worker, who apparently suffers from alcoholism, was caught “in a moment of confusion”. In what is reportedly a real quote from a real human being, the lawyer added that the dog “didn’t resist”.

The defence also noted that Chung had lost his job since word got out about his animal rape. At which point are we supposed to start feeling sympathy?

Magistrate So Wai-tak slammed Chung’s “disgusting” behaviour and said the 58-year-old had hurt his wife and three children.

Chung’s case has been adjourned until April 18, and he will be sentenced on April 21, pending court-ordered psychiatric reports. He is facing a separate charge of assault after allegedly punching a journalist in February.

The maximum penalty for bestiality is a fine of HKD50,000 fine and 10 years’ imprisonment. Hong Kong’s last and only recorded case of bestiality took place in 2000, when a 48-year-old man raped a dog in a Hung Hom toilet. He was jailed for two months.
