A trek along a scenic waterfall route near Yuen Long turned tragic for a hiker Saturday, when the 32-year-old woman lost her footing and plunged to her death while taking a photo.

According to HK01, the hiker, surnamed Cheung, set off towards Ha Pak Nai from Tuen Mun with three friends at about 11 am.

Around 5 pm, while taking a photo at Tsing Dai stream, she is believed to have misstepped and fallen into the 5-meter deep pool below.

First responders arrived at the scene after her friends called police. Cheung was transported via helicopter to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, where she was certified dead.

Located near the popular Pineapple Mountain, Ha Pak Lai is a more remote hiking spot known for its sunset views.

Cheung’s Instagram page shows the avid hiker conquering trails around Hong Kong including Lantau Peak and Castle Peak, stopping to pose for photos along the way.
