Hong Kong father arrested for child abuse after locking 7-year-old in car trunk

A Hong Kong man has been arrested after bundling his seven-year-old son into the boot of his car as a punishment for bad behaviour.

The 57-year-old, surnamed Lee, was reported to the police by passersby who saw him stuff the boy into the trunk outside a restaurant at the Domain Shopping Centre in Yau Tong on Saturday night.

According to a reports, Lee, his 31-year-old wife and their two sons were eating dinner when the seven-year-old excused himself to go to the washroom and never came back.

His father apparently found him messing around in the car park, where he scolded the boy, prompting him to run off again.

After giving chase and catching the lad, Lee reportedly shoved him into the boot of the family car and closed the lid.

According to Apple Daily, the father said: “It’s no big deal putting him inside the trunk. What was I supposed to do? He wouldn’t listen to me.”

Both parents have been arrested for child abuse and the boy has been placed with the social welfare department.
