Hong Kong ExCo member likens technology bureau filibuster to Islamic State beheadings

A Hong Kong Executive Council member is standing by a rather ill advised simile in which she compared filibustering by pan-democratic lawmakers to the beheading of hostages by the Islamic State.

After funding failed to be granted for a proposed Innovation and Technology Bureau by Saturday’s deadline, miffed ExCo member Fanny Law couldn’t hide her disappointment.

Firstly, it was revealed that Law sent lawmaker Albert Chan a text saying “what goes around comes around and those who hurt the innocent will be destroyed” a few days before the vote in an attempt to prevent filibustering (babbling on about rubbish so nothing can get done) at Saturday’s LegCo meeting.

After funding was not approved for the new bureau due to such dirty tricks, Law dropped this little gem on a radio show on Sunday:

“It’s [filibustering] like those, what do you call them, Islamic [State militants] … I’m heartbroken whenever I see such things, why would they capture random people on the street to behead?”

Jeez. Somebody tape up this woman’s mouth and fingers!

In response, Chan accused Law of having a delusional disorder (seems fair) and said that as a Christian, he was insulted to be compared to terrorists (because Christians are the only people who deplore such things, BTW).

Even fellow LegCo member Regina Ip didn’t have Law’s back, explaining that as filibustering is done without violence, such actions cannot be compared with the beheading of innocent civilians.

You don’t say.
