No, there isn’t a fire. Hong Kong is just horribly hot and polluted today. Sorry about that.
Thanks to Tropical Cyclone Soudelor, described as the worst storm of 2015, insanely hot air is being pushed into Hong Kong today and tomorrow.
The mercury is hitting highs of 32 degrees Celsius today, with that expected to climb to an insane 35 degrees Celsius tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Air Quality Health Index shows pollution is either “Very High” or “Serious” at every monitoring station across the territory. The “Serious” spots are Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and Causeway Bay.
When the warning is “Serious”, children and the elderly are advised to stay indoors and avoid heavy traffic, so be sure to shoo anyone of that description off the streets.
Tomorrow is also Liqiu, the official start of autumn according to the Chinese agricultural calendar. Not only could tomorrow be the hottest day of the year, but it could also be the hottest Liqiu since 1947, predicts the Hong Kong Observatory.
Cinema day, anyone?
