Long-serving staff members at a care home for the mentally disabled have been accused of abusing residents by repeatedly sticking tape onto their nipples and ripping it off.
Really, is this some kind of sadistic high school?
Four so-called “caregivers” from non-profit facility Harmony Manor in Sha Tin alleged abused two autistic residents, both aged around 30, on Jan. 5.
A colleague, who kept his identity secret, told the press and the authority’s management that one patient was stopped from sleeping when the four staffers stuck tape to his body on Jan. 5. The abuse allegedly continued for five minutes, despite the resident’s screams.
Another resident, who was reported to have “severe” autism, was unable to respond or resist when he got the sticky tape treatment to his nipples, the SCMP reports. The abuse allegedly continued while one of the four took photographs.
The whistle blower said he had witnessed his colleagues bullying residents before – for example by taking their plates away while they were eating – but that the sticky tape abuse crossed the line.
According to reports, the four were allowed to continue working for five days after the complaint was made.
Counselling has been arranged for the residents and their families, while the Social Welfare Department has requested a report from the care home, which has suspended the four workers.
