Hong Kong beauticians using cancer to scare customer into purchase arrested

Three beauticians who allegedly claimed a customer needed expensive treatments to avoid cancer have been arrested by Hong Kong’s Customs and Excise Department.

The women, aged between 29 and 49, are accused of exerting undue influence in an attempt to persuade a customer to buy a treatment package costing more than HKD100,000.

They are said to have told the customer they had an infectious disease that could incur pathological changes or even mutate into cancer.

After receiving a complaint, the Customs and Excise Department carried out an in-depth investigation, which resulted in the arrests last Wednesday.

The therapists have been released on police bail while investigations continue into their alleged contravening of the Trade Descriptions Ordinance.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is five years in jail and a HKD500,000 fine.

If you think your beautician (or anyone else for that matter) is mugging you off, call this number: (+852) 2545-6182.
